What is an Athletic Mouthguard?

A mouthguard is a strong dental appliance that is custom-made out of thick dental plastic to fit over the top row of your teeth. Mouthguards are recommended for athletes, but others can also benefit from them.  Mouthguards protect your teeth from all types of injury, such as broken or chipped teeth, a bitten tongue, or tears in your gums and tissue.

How to Get One:

Getting an athletic mouthguard is a fairly simple process. When you come into our office, we will take an impression of your teeth that will be made into a mold that will provide the details of your smile we need to make the guard. This will ensure that the mouthguard fits the size of your mouth perfectly. After the impression has been taken, it will take us a few weeks to create it and have it completely ready. 

For each of our patients who currently have or are trying to get a mouthguard, we recommend that you replace it around every 4 months, or after a full sports season. The more you bite down on your mouthguard, the more loosely it will fit onto your teeth.
